2025 Season update
A lot has changed over the last five years. I’ve finished multiple races I never dreamed of doing, had dogs retire that I couldn’t imagine finishing a race without, and had two litters of pups come into the world. Aidan joined the team, and has been running my puppy team for four years now, completing numerous hundred mile races himself.
Looking back over my old blog posts I have to smile at the lack of knowledge and naivety that shines through, and appreciate that I took the time to write down some of my most significant learning moments in dog mushing so I can have that chance to look back and appreciate where I came from. It’s good to reflect how different both myself and my dog team are, and things I’ve changed about the way I do things because of those experiences I had.
There’s something different about things now that feels more intentional and calculated. I suppose somewhere along the way the rookie faded, and made room for the older me that’s wiser and confident and along with that the dog team turned from chaotic to a well oiled machine. This will be my first season running a team almost entirely raised and trained by me. Nine out of twelve were born here on the creek, and this season is all about getting them some more positive experiences and having fun. The future is unknown and the path ahead is unclear at times, but I’m very excited to see where these dogs take me.
